South Hero Island was originally founded in 1779. The land had been a reward to Ethan and Ira Allen for their service to the state. Originally known as Two Heroâ€, the two towns became North Hero and South Hero in 1788. South Hero is a part of the Grand Isle County, Grand Isle it is the town’s northern neighbor.
